The NOPP Office would like to congratulate Dr. Len Thomas and Dr. Tiago Marques from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland on their publication in the upcoming issue of Acoustics Today, a magazine published through the Acoustical Society of America.  The article is titled “Passive Acoustic Monitoring for Estimating Animal Density”, and is the 16th article to come out of their 2007 NOPP-funded research, focused on estimating the density of cetaceans using passive acoustic fixed sensors.  The upcoming publication, stemming from this original study, addresses the difficulties in estimating animal populations and densities using human observations and proposes a new solution using passive acoustics to perform these estimates.

A PDF of the article can be found here.

Congratulations again to Drs. Thomas and Marques on their incredibly successful project and numerous publications!
