The National Oceanographic Partnership Program (NOPP) Office had another busy year in 2011, continuing to support the Interagency Working Group on Ocean Partnerships (IWG-OP) and their subgroups, the Biodiversity Ad Hoc Group and the Federal Renewable Ocean Energy Working Group (FROEWG), as well as the Interagency Working Group on Facilities and Infrastructure (IWG-FI) and their subgroup, the Task Force on Unmanned Systems (TFUS).
During the month of November, the Interagency Working Group on Facilities and Infrastructure (IWG-FI), the Interagency Working Group on Ocean Partnerships (IWG-OP), the IWG-FI Task Force on Unmanned Systems (TFUS), and the full Subcommittee on Ocean Science and Technology (SOST) all held meetings.
At the October meeting, the Interagency Working Group on Ocean Partnerships elected a new Co-Chair, Dr. Rodney Cluck from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management.
The National Oceanographic Partnership Program (NOPP) Office hosted an exhibit booth at the MTS/IEEE Oceans ’11 meeting, September 19-22, 2011, in Kona, Hawaii.
The Interagency Working Group on Ocean Partnerships (IWG-OP) met on August 12 and discussed potential FY 2012 funding opportunities.

Several members from the Interagency Working Group on Ocean Partnerships met in June to discuss Public Law 111-11, which calls for the formation of a task force on Ocean Exploration and Undersea Research Technology and Infrastructure.
The National Oceanographic Partnership Program (NOPP) will attend and host an exhibit booth at the 2nd International Marine Conservation Congress in Victoria, British Columbia from May 14-18. Please stop by our booth and pick up a copy of the report on Attaining an Operational Marine Biodiversity Observation Network.
The National Oceanographic Partnership Program (NOPP) is pleased to announce the release of the Attaining an Operational Marine Biodiversity Observation Network Synthesis Report. The report is the result of a three-day workshop held at the Consortium for Ocean Leadership to plan for the implementation of a sustainable marine Biodiversity Observing Network (BON). Currently, there is no standardized, coordinated approach to monitoring marine biodiversity, the degree of variation in marine life forms. The report provides a set of recommendations and case studies for implementing a national and global marine BON.
The recommendations from the National Oceanographic Partnership Program (NOPP) breakout session on Attaining an Operational Biodiversity Observing Network: Transforming Recommendations to Action at the January 19-20, 2011 National Council for Science and the Environment (NCSE) conference are now available.
