Several members from the Interagency Working Group on Ocean Partnerships met in June to discuss Public Law 111-11, which calls for the formation of a task force on Ocean Exploration and Undersea Research Technology and Infrastructure. Read more
The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) has named Dr. Scott Glenn, of Rutgers University, professor of the year. The award recognizes professors for their exceptional involvement and impact on undergraduate students and also for their scholarly approach to learning and teaching. Read more
The National Oceanographic Partnership Program (NOPP) has sponsored the funding of almost $3 million to CSA International to conduct an environmental and archaeological study on deepwater hard bottom habitats and shipwrecks in the mid-Atlantic. Read more
A joint expedition funded by MMS and NOAA to study the distribution and abundance of deepwater coral habitats in the Gulf of Mexico recently departed from Key West, Florida. This project is conducted under the auspices of the National Oceanographic Partnership Program. Read more
The search for domestic energy sources is progressing to great depths in the Gulf of Mexico. As economic interests move oil and gas operations into these previously unexplored areas, the Minerals Management Service (MMS) works to increase understanding of the organisms residing at these depths.
